Last week, Sophie said out of the clear blue, “Momma, can I get my ears pierced?”
I came very close to squealing with delight. She’s recently asked me to let her nails grow, as well. While it’s bittersweet that she’s growing so fast, she’s never been a “girly girl,” so I was tickled.
I even invited family members to come and watch the big event.
With cameras in hand, the kids and 5 of us (Momma, Sandra, Chris, me, and Aunt Bridgette) went along to watch our sweet Sophie go through this 7-year-old rite of passage.
When we got to the store, it was CRAM PACKED with people. In fact, there were like 3 girls in front of Sophie just to get their ears pierced!
So what happens? The first two little girls get their ears pierced and walk away smiling.
The third little girl, whose mother basically forced her into doing it, began squabbling BEFORE they even approached her ears!!!
My sensitive Sophie watched this little girl AND BEGAN TO CRY HERSELF.
What did this mean? After almost a solid week of excitedly telling EVERYONE about how she was getting her ears pierced, she grabbed the door handle while crying and shaking her head as though she’d just watched an ear amputation.
So there you go. The ears shall not be pierced anytime soon.
And today ~ my son decides to sit on the side of the bathroom sink for some reason… on his departure from the edge, he missed his landing and fell forward cracking the bridge of his nose onto the side of the bathtub. It was so bad, folks, that there was SKIN left behind on my fabric shower curtain!
Now his poor face is swollen and blue and purple… If he doesn’t have a shiner in the morning, it’ll be hard to believe…
