I'm closing a door.
Today is the last day that my youngest, my weeeee little baby boy, will be home with me as he once was.
Starting tomorrow, I will be placing him into the hands of many, many others who will, for the next nearly 2 decades, see him more than I will on a (weekday) daily basis.
*sigh*
When I think about it too much, I feel my throat get tight and feel that surge of emotion begin to creep over me, but then I distract myself.
I can't believe that it's gone by so fast.
We've spent almost the entire summer inside. I feel like a bad mom for that, but none of us easily tolerate the record temps we've been having.
To avoid ONE MORE DAY in our pajamas all day long, we got up and got out despite the temp hitting 106 today (index close to 120). The three of us went to Chuck E. Cheese to finish off the tokens from Bryce's birthday. Together, we won over 1000 tickets!!! There was one game in particular that the 3 of us loved, which was one of those where you insert a token, which lands amongst other tokens, and the little "pushers" scoot and bump them until they fall. We really racked up on tickets!
We left there and got ice cream and then went to 2 different McDonalds in search of the last 7 Smurfs that the kids didn't have. We don't eat McDonald's Happy Meals, but we'll give 'em $2 freakin' dollars a piece for a Smurf. Haha! I've been SO "anti-new-Smurfs," but Grammy took them to see the movie, and now they're both Smurf-crazy. It was cool to show them the picture I had from maybe my 7th or 8th birthday party where I was holding up a Smurf shirt and for Chris to pull out some of his old figures. Ah, the generation bridges!
We found all of our collectibles and went home. We really, really had a nice day together. I'm so glad we did, too.
Okay. I could go on and on and rant about how much I'll miss my first 7 years as a Momma to babies who are home with me... but I won't. I'm already building terrible butterflies and feeling the urge to bawl, so I'll just click that little window on my taskbar that is otherwise known as my means to pay the mortgage and carry on. ;)

Written today, their first day:

Their first day of school went really great! We were a little late due to the horrible traffic, but that was to be expected.
We walked Sophie into her class first, and all of the students were quiet as mice, sitting nicely with pencils in hand and doing work! Wow, what a tight ship! I was SUPER impressed. Sophie said she had a GREAT time today and thinks her teacher is super funny.
We then walked Bryce into his classroom. He went in, went to his seat, and sat down. He immediately began to do a puzzle that was on the table and put on a little hat with his name on it (a green foam sun visor). I hugged and kissed him a million times, told him that I love him, and then said goodbye.
He never looked back.
When I got into the hall, I began to cry. By the time we got to the end of the hall, there were crocodile tears.
More came throughout the day as I really noticed how "loud" the silence was around me as I ran errands.
(I cried 5 times.)
In a week when nursing school starts, maybe I'll be too busy to focus so much on them being gone... or maybe not. *sniffle*
