Easter (and more!)

THE DAY BEFORE EASTER

Bryce and Sophie were discussing whether or not the Easter Bunny has these cameras that watch all the kids in the world…

Bryce paused, looked forward, and said, “Hello Easter Bunny. I love those great-lookin’ handsome pajamas you have on.”

Then he said (to me), “Maybe he’ll hear that and want to bring me lots of good stuff!”

EASTER

Earlier in the day on Friday, Bryce asked if he could write the Easter Bunny a letter. With the sweetest handwriting and a picture of EB, himself, holding a basket, Bryce also scribbled out a line with “sine” underneath. He wanted the Easter Bunny to SIGN his letter! Excitedly, he left it on his bedside table and went to bed.

1:15am Friday night – I was nodding off at the keyboard and had just logged off of the computer. I was eagerly anticipating sneaking their baskets into their rooms and heading to bed… That’s when I hear *knock knock knock* on the wall and a little voice calling, “Momma.”

I knew that it would be another hour or better before I could go to bed.

I went in to check on Bryce and see what was wrong. Earlier, though, I’d taken his letter out of his room to sign it and take pictures. Thing is, I signed it in CHOCOLATE. Two little initials “EB” in chocolate.

When Bryce woke up and I went in to check on him, he was sitting up in his bed pointing to his table.

I said, “Oh baby, Momma just took it out to take pictures of it. I’ll bring it back. Go back to sleep or the Easter Bunny won’t come.”

I went back into my room and flipped channels doing my best to stay awake.

Finally, about half an hour later, I got the nerve up to go and deliver goodies.

When I went into Bryce’s room, he was lying completely still. I tiptoed in, sat his basket down, laid some jellybeans on the floor, and left.

Within 5 minutes or so, Bryce is calling me again.

When I went in, he was SO EXCITED. He then went into this story about how he was “fake sleeping” and how he HEARD the Easter Bunny. He said, “I heard him open the door, walk in with his big feet, put my basket down, and then close the door.”

“Big feet???” Thanks, kid.

He was so excited and so wound up over the fact that he'd witnessed the REAL Easter Bunny leave his basket. I asked how on earth he knew, and he went on and on about how he was "fake sleeping" but that he didn't want to turn and look because the Easter Bunny wouldn't have left him a basket.

*BIG SIGH OF RELIEF*

Talk about almost getting busted!!!!

I had him come and get in bed with me because I knew if he stayed in his room, he'd NEVER go back to sleep! We sat in there for another half hour discussing how cool it was that EB was JUST at our house!!!! He had me cracking up despite it being almost 2am.

So a few hours later, we all got up and inspected baskets - Bryce's was all Spiderman-ed out, and Sophie's was girl-ified with pretty bright colors and a Zooble toy.

Chris and I invited folks over for a cookout and some cascarones. :)

Our guests were my mom, Sandra, TJ, Bridgette, Amber, Kevin, Jude, and baby Isla.

I'm so glad everyone came. It makes my heart so warm and fuzzy when I can spend it with people I love. I miss all of my other out-of-town family!!!!

Speaking of which - my dad and Bonnie got the kids M&Ms with thier names on them!!! Cool, huh?

The kids were super spoiled yet again with baskets from Memaw (my mom), Sandra (Chris' mom), and Bridgette (who just so happened to MAKE their baskets out of starch and string... they were so cute!) "Uncle" TJ brought them HUMONGOUS chocolate bunnies, too!

We all had a great time, as we always do. The cascarones were fun, too.

It turned out to be a beautiful day in the 70s with beautiful sunshine. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. :)

On the morning they were to take their spring school pictures...

I went outside with the kids and saw this copper fella curled up beneath one of our bushes. Given we live in a typical neighborhood in the suburbs and off of a relatively busy street (behind our back yard), I didn't want to leave this fella where it would get squished, captured, or anything of the like. Not being sure of the type of snake it was, I grabbed our big plastic rake and our kitchen garbage can. Trying our best to be delicate, we grabbed it and put it into the trash can. I felt HORRIBLE when I realized we'd accidentally knicked it's belly somehow with either the rake or when pulling it from the bush. It's a pretty icky abrasion and even bled a little, for which my heart was broken, but I think he/she will be okay. I made several phone calls looking for tips on what to do or how to release it. Because it's still cool out and the snake would risk being a raccoon's dinner, I was suggested to wait until the dew dries in the morning and release it in the park... which I intend to do. It's a BIG ol' snake, too! It's an Okeetee Corn Snake. Pretty!!
