Update!

Bryce ~ The boy is absolutely, over-the-top OBSESSED with Super Mario Bros. Anyone smell a cake in the works for his May birthday? I do! Too bad that I'll probably have to take off of work to assemble it -- I'm stretched too darn thin these days.

EVERYTHING in his little world right now is Super Mario (Mah-wee-oh). He totes the little figures around and his big stuffed Mario, as well. He ALWAYS begs Chris to play Super Mario Bros in the mornings and LOVES to play it, too. I always said I'd never let my kids spend so much time playing video games, but he just LOVES these characters so much. I still limit his time on the Wii, though. He'll turn off the TV and spend just as long making up games with his little figures. He'll ask me over and over, "Who's your fav'rit, Momma?" Silly boy.

He's learning sass, too, which I guess comes with age. *sigh* He recently had to have the first two of his Kindergarten shots, too. I HATE that we live in ONE of the ONLY two states where we can't object to the immunizations. If he doesn't have the shots or proven immunity, simply enough, he can't attend public school. How fair is THAT? Ugh. I had a talk with my Microbiology professor (a BRILLIANT man who does research for St. Jude here in Memphis), and his suggestion was, if we HAD to do it, was to space them out.

I wanted to draw titers, but because of our insurance changes, it would've cost us a lot out of pocket. I looked over his shot records and realized what shots he'd had when he was younger and realized that his immune system handled it okay and took a deep breath and let it happen. I don't like it, though. I hate feeling like I don't have a choice in the matter if my children are to go to public school in Mississippi. It makes me angry... It makes me feel cornered...

Anyway, like I said, we're splitting them up. He was due FOUR shots and we're only allowing 2 at a time so that we can fully monitor them and allow his immune system (and super busy B cells) a chance to do what it needs to do and make the necessary antibodies. Introducing THAT MANY antigens into a child's immune system seems CRAZY. If he would've had all four, with 2 of the shots being combo shots of 3 antigens, he would've had exposure to 8 different antigens (and their additives) at once. How freakin' scary is that? It seems like it would overwhelm your immune system.

So... No need to get bitchy with me, please, if you have strong opinions over the shots. I wish we had more options, but if our children are to attend public school here, we don't.

Moving on, Bryce is doing well. I can tell he's behind where Sophie was at this age in terms of reading/writing/drawing, but he's par for the course so far in terms of keeping on track developmentally. He's definitely my little nugget and is either super snuggly or just the opposite -- too busy or too sassy to have time for his Momma.

He's starting to spend as much time as Sophie did drawing, though - ESPECIALLY if he sees his big sister at the art table!! Of course, most of his pictures these days are of Mario characters. How funny is it that hanging in his preschool classroom is a picture he drew of Mario and Luigi with "God Is Love" scrawled across the top... Bless his heart!

Ever since the first week of preschool, I've kissed him goodbye and walked outside and waited for him to watch out of his room's second-story window as I left. Once he sees me, I have to do a dance -- it can be the funky chicken or the macarena or the hokey pokey, but it has to be a dance. It's something I started and I never stopped. So every Tuesday and Thursday, I go downstairs to go back to my car and stop, turn around, and do a goofy dance for my child who has his nose pressed against the window. Yes, there are other parents in the parking lot... Who cares? He'll remember this, I bet!

Sophie ~ What can I say? The kid is super easy. She's my mellow child. She has a tender heart and is a love bug. I'm not sure if it's her age or disposition, but she's just EASY. She loves to draw, still, and will sit for hours if I let her. She's doing great with her reading, too. She's a mini-me and loves her school. It sure makes me proud! She just got Principal's List again. She's growing so tall and is changing so much these days. She just LOOKS like a big girl and is blooming so quickly before my eyes. It's so sweet to hear her talk about her friends at school, too. She wrote me a letter at school for one of her assignments. Everyone had to. Her friend, Laila, wrote one to her and claimed Sophie as her "1st best friend." Isn't that sweet? Here's something even sweeter -- she chose her MOMMA to write HER letter to!

Dear Momma,

You are pretty. You make me happy. You play with me. You pick me up from scool allmost evry day. I love you. You love me. Your favrit animal is cats. Your favrit kid is me.

Your friend,
Sophie

*tee hee* I love my baby girl!!!

Me ~ School is rolling along. Made a 103 on my A&P II Lab midterm and a 91 on my last A&P II exam. Easy peasy. I hope that my Nursing curriculum comes as easy. I go for orientation on Monday. I'm so super excited!!!!!! We start dissecting the cats on Thursday. I'm NOT thrilled AT ALL. (AT ALL!!!!!!!) I've decided that I will NOT make cuts on the cat. I'll pay attention, but my lab partner is MORE THAN WELCOME (and wants to) make the cuts and do the dissection. Fine with me!

And just because, here are a couple more recent pics ~

My two babies at the Botanic Gardens recently...

Cool Baby Jude! Isn't he a BIG BOY now?
